National Ovarian Cancer Coalition

SUDBURY, Mass. -- Three of the nation's leading health care organizations today announced they have signed partnership agreements with Lotsa Helping Hands (http://www.lotsahelpinghands.com), enabling them to offer a co-branded, free-of-charge caregiving coordination Web service, as a cornerstone initiative to providing comprehensive caregiving services.

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), a patient care, teaching and research affiliate of Harvard Medical School; National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC), the leading ovarian cancer public information and education organization in the United States; and The Geriatric Oncology Consortium, the premier provider and resource for geriatric oncology research and education, have become official partners of Lotsa Helping Hands.

Lotsa Helping Hands is a simple, immediate way for friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors to assist loved ones in need. It's an easy-to-use, private group calendar, specifically designed for organizing helpers, where everyone can pitch in with meals delivery, rides, and other tasks necessary for life to run smoothly during a crisis.

"Lotsa Helping Hands is an extraordinarily important new resource for families coping with a diagnosis of ovarian cancer," said Shelly Rozenberg, chief administrative officer and director of programs of NOCC. "NOCC is proud to be the first organization to offer this much needed service to the public."

Barry Katz, founder and president of Lotsa Helping Hands, created the service after the death of his wife, Carole Singer, who braved a four-year struggle with ovarian cancer. "It is specially fitting that we are partnering with Lotsa Helping Hands since Carole Singer was a dedicated and passionate supporter of the NOCC Massachusetts Division," Rozenberg said.

Jane Matlaw, director, community relations, at BIDMC, said, "Lotsa Helping Hands is a fabulous resource. It is a logical partnership for BIDMC, because we are so committed to helping patients and their families manage difficult situations. What a wonderful way to bring a patient's family and friends together to provide the help and support that is truly needed. "

Robert Hauser, PharmD, PhD, vice president and chief operating officer of The Geriatric Oncology Consortium (GOC) said, "Our nursing and social work members approached us looking for a solution to problems older adult cancer patients often have associated with transportation, meals and daily living activities. We began to search for a solution that could provide a simple immediate way for friends, family, colleagues and neighbors to assist their older adult loved ones who had been diagnosed with cancer. After testing several different products, the Lotsa Helping Hands Web site was by far the most user-friendly solution. Lotsa Helping Hands is a great way to elicit help from the community surrounding older adult cancer patients who may need a little extra support."

In addition to these three organizations that are partnering with Lotsa Helping Hands, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has included Lotsa Helping Hands as a resource through its new co-survivor program, designed to recognize, inform and encourage all kinds of people who help breast cancer survivors in big or little ways, from the moment of diagnosis and beyond. Lotsa Helping Hands is featured on the Komen Foundation's Co-Survivor Program Web site, www.komen.org/cosurvivor.
