IRON LADIES: WOMEN IN THATCHER'S BRITAIN

Original documents, photographs, posters and memorabilia examine the impact of Britain's first female prime minister. Alongside a consideration of Thatcher's own political career, the show looks at her legacy for feminism, focusing on events such as the Wendy Savage inquiry over natural childbirth rights, Victoria Gillick's campaign against contraceptive advice for the under-16s, and the emergence of the women of Greenham Common as part of the revival of the peace movement. ENCOUNTERS: THE MEETING OF ASIA AND EUROPE

An exhibition of objects dating from 1500 to 1800, after the Europeans' discovery of the sea route to the Indies. The show investigates the ways in which east and west perceived each other in those early days of contact and reveals what each had that the other coveted.

The authors of three new books will be presenting their arguments at the launch of a new book series published by Cambridge University Press and edited by Nikolas Rose (LSE) and Paul Rabinow (University of California, Berkeley). Adam Hedgecoe (University of Sussex) will be talking about the "Politics of Personalised Medicine", Monica Konrad (University of Cambridge) about "Narrating the New Predictive Genetics" and Amade M'charek (University of Amsterdam) on "The Human Genome Diversity Project".

TETRA MASTS: PROFITEERING FROM PUBLIC HEALTH RISK

Dr Gerard Hyland, honorary fellow of the University of Warwick, and executive member of the International Institute of Biophysics in Germany, discusses the danger posed by Tetra, a new mobile microwave communication technology that employs phone masts emitting dangerous amounts of radiation. The government has insisted that the British police use Tetra, which has already led to officer deaths, and Tetra Base Stations are now proliferating across the UK, posing a serious risk to public health. Dr Hyland has studied the effects of microwave radiation on living organisms since 1985 and is also a trustee of UK EM (Electromagnetic) Radiation Trust.
