Exploring impact of technology in medicine EXPLORING IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY IN MEDICINE: Actor Hill Harper, who plays a forensic pathologist on "CSL: NY," participates in a town-hall symposium that kicked off Black Family Technology Awareness Week (BFTAW) with Dr. Matthias Okoye, director, Nebraska Institute of Forensic Sciences, Inc. and associate professor of forensic pathology at Creighton University School of Medicine; Dr. Colin Parris, vice president, product management, IBM Systems & Technology Group; Dr. Leigh Ann Hutchinson, director of the Arrhythmia Pacemaker Clinic at Suffolk Heart Group and director of the Electrophysiology Division of Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, NY; Marilyn D. Johnson, vice president, IBM Small-to-Medium Business Market Development; Drew Valentine, director, Global Equal Opportunity, IBM Human Resources; Anne Geiger, principal, Martin Luther King Jr. High School of Arts and Technology; and Tyrone Taborn, chairman, Career Communications Group, publisher of US Black Engineer and Information Technology, and founder of BFTAW, at the Martin Luther King Jr. High School in New York. More than 550 students at the school attended the event, sponsored by Career Communications Group and IBM. The symposium, hosted by IBM and Region 10 of the New York City Department of Education, explored the impact of technology on the field of medicine. The event previewed BFTAW, an international initiative that hosted interactive workshops, seminars, computer classes, Internet training, symposiums and other technology activities on three continents. BFTAW promotes the value of technology in the Black community and its importance in educating and preparing Black youth for future careers.
