Alberta Alzheimer groups amalgamate EDMONTON -- The Alzheimer Societies of Alberta, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Palliser Region, Lethbridge, Red Deer and Central Alberta, and the Wood Buffalo and Northwest Territories Chapters will amalgamate as the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories. The Alzheimer Society of Calgary will continue to provide services in their area and negotiations will be ongoing regarding their affiliation with the Society.
Services and supports currently provided by the separate Societies will be expanded under the amalgamated Society. Delivery of services will be facilitated through local Chapters located in Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Red Deer, Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Fort McMurray and Yellowknife. The head office will be located in Edmonton. Executive Director is Peggy Viel.
Amalgamation discussions began in 1999. Currently 28,000 Albertans have Alzheimer Disease or a related disorder. 403-250-1303
About 364,000 Canadians, or one in 13 over the age of 65, have Alzheimer Disease or a related disorder.
