Methodist Sports Medicine Center Selects JHD Group To Manage Business Operations and Enhance Practice Performance

INDIANAPOLIS -- Five-Year Agreement Reflects Long-Term Commitment to Practice Management Excellence

Methodist Sports Medicine Center (MSMC), a premier provider of orthopedic services in Indianapolis, has selected Dallas-based JHD Group to manage the group's business operations. The five-year agreement focuses the JHD Group on increasing financial and operational improvement of the practice while significantly enhancing the group's ability to grow and service patients. In an agreement that is described by both organizations as "extremely results oriented," the JHD Group will manage a wide variety of MSMC's operations including patient services, managed care contracting, billing and collection, finance and accounting, and the related functions necessary to support a world class group of physicians.

This agreement will ensure that MSMC remains efficient and focused on providing cutting edge medicine, as well as continuing to serve the community with the highest level of patient care in a healthcare environment which is facing increasing cost pressure, competition, and practice management complexities. More specifically, working in partnership with the JHD Group, MSMC expects to decrease overhead costs, increase the efficiency and effectiveness of its billing and collection processes, improve patient access and service, increase the availability of information technology tools, and, through a planning process, help the practice to continuously enhance care delivery over the long term.

According to Gary Misamore, M.D. President of MSMC, "the selection of the JHD Group as an outside partner was a major strategic decision for us. Commenting on the development of the JHD-MSMC relationship Vice-President Pete Sallay, M.D. noted, "There were two compelling reasons, differentiators really, why we thought that the JHD Group had the ability and will to substantially increase the value of the organization to our shareholders, and ultimately benefit our patients. First, we were very impressed at how quickly they were able to identify, understand and quantify our operational and financial issues, as well as potential opportunities for us. Buy-in from our physicians is very important to the success of our mission," he stressed.

The "hand's on" and "results oriented" partnership approach taken by the JHD Group means that a significant portion of its compensation based upon the firm's ability to achieve metrics in overhead cost reduction, and growth in practice revenue. Art Rettig, M.D. a senior physician in the group and team physician for the Indianapolis Colts, summed up JHD's approach well "I learned more in JHD's three hour presentation about our practice that I have learned in twenty years worth of other consultants."
