Continuing education program targets pharmacy techs NEW YORK -- Certified pharmacy technicians are rapidly emerging as an integral part of the retail pharmacy environment, with responsibilities ranging from acting as a gatekeeper for cold medicines containing pseudoephedrine to, in some states, counseling patients on over-the-counter medications. Coordinating learning efforts between certified technicians and pharmacists could only serve to strengthen the role certified pharmacy technicians play behind the pharmacy counter.
Beginning with the August issue of Continuing Education Quarterly, Drug Store News will offer the program Learn Together, Care Together. Combining continuing education for pharmacists and technicians, the new program will coordinate the same subjects, but on different degrees of complexity.
"Learn Together, Care Together' puts pharmacists and certified pharmacy technicians on same page," said Drug Store News publisher John Kenlon. "Learning at the same time, from the same provider, makes for a better level of understanding."
The program also strengthens the combined effectiveness between pharmacists and technicians in serving pharmacy customers and guarantees patients receive consistent, reliable information no matter who they speak to behind the pharmacy counter.
Better educated pharmacists and techs will drive greater service behind the customer loyalty and ultimately, profits.
The Learn Together, Care Together program will appear in print and online consistent with the regular CEQ.
The premier topic will focus on cardiovascular health.
