Albertson's pharmacist named president of Texas pharmacy board - Donna Rogers - Brief Article AUSTIN, Texas -- Donna Rogers, a pharmacist for Albertson's in San Antonio, has been elected president of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. Rogers, a 1972 graduate of the University of Texas College of Pharmacy who earned a master of science degree in pharmacy administration last year, will serve a one-year term that began Sept. 1.
Rogers works as a part-time pharmacist for an Albertson's pharmacy in San Antonio. She previously served as director of pharmacy and ancillary services at Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital in San Antonio and as a pharmacy staffer with Merck & Go.
In an interview, Rogers indicated a desire as board president to remove further roadblocks from the cost-effective and patient-focused practice of retail pharmacy in the state. "The state board is charged with protecting citizens' health. And I'd like to do that by enabling the pharmacists of our state to utilize their clinical skills and expertise to help patients, and helping them optimize their medication therapy," she told Drug Store News. "No healthcare professional is more qualified than a pharmacist to do that."
Along those lines, Rogers said, the board generally will support efforts by chains and independents to alleviate pharmacy workloads through the increasing use of technology and highly skilled technicians. "I have a very strong belief in pharmacists getting involved with their patients," she said. "The state board can play an important role in trying to help alleviate some of the workload issues that get in the way of that."
